Blue Mountain Arts has made publishing history over the years with hundreds of millions of greeting cards sold, poetry books that have appeared on bestseller lists, the creation of the famous bluemountain.com e-greeting card website, and, in the aftermath of the tragedy of September 11, 2001, the publication of the book One World, One Heart.The founders and creative talents behind this inspiring success story are Susan Polis Schutz and Stephen Schutz. The couple was married in 1969 and moved to Colorado to begin life together in the mountains. On the weekends, they began experimenting with printing Susan’s poems, surrounded by Stephen’s artwork, on posters they silk-screened in their basement. They soon decided they wanted to spend all their time together, so they packed up their pickup-truck camper and began a year of traveling together across the country. They sold their posters in towns and cities along the way to make enough money for food and gas.The public was touched by Susan and Stephen’s love for life and for each other. Orders for their posters quickly grew as more and more people discovered the beauty of their creations. In response to incredible public demand, the couple’s first book, Come Into the Mountains, Dear Friend, was published in 1972. History was made in the process.
