Gates Capital Corporation is a municipal broker-dealer firm whose primary activities are the sale, trading, remarketing and origination of municipal securities. Gates derives its name from the acronym for Government And Tax Exempt Securities. A particular focus of the firm is the negotiated underwriting and direct placement of tax-exempt bonds and notes issued by our public and independent sector investment banking clients. Gates Capital was established in 1992 as a successor company to Langdon P. Cook & Co. and acquired all of Cook's municipal business activities and related investment banking services. The Cook firm, which now focuses solely on government securities, was founded in 1974 and the founding partner, Langdon P. Cook, remains an active principal of Gates Capital. Furthermore, many members of Gates' professional staff were previously employed by this predecessor firm. Gates Capital Corporation is a member firm of the National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD) and Securities Investor Protection Corporation (SIPC). The firm maintains its headquarters in New York City and has regional operations in Connecticut , New Jersey , California and Illinois .
